They walked on for about ten minutes before Alu paused to rest. "How do you do this," she asked, "There's such a long distance between places here. It's exhausting." She placed a hand against the cold stone wall and bent over to relieve her back. The sensation of her hand pressed against the cool stone gave her relief from the heat that was causing her hair to stick to her face. Sadly, the relief began to fade away and the cool wall warmed beneath her hand.
"You think this is alot," he said, "Wait until we get to the staircases." He began to walk on and she had to walk again just to keep track of him because they had gotten to a point where the hallways made sharp twists and turns. She began to feel as if she might faint. "Why don't you tell me more about you and your people," he suggested, "It'll take your mind off of the heat." He glanced back at her and his pale eyes sparkled in the dim light of the hallway, making them seem oddly darker, causing her catch her breathe.
"Well," she began, "Sauron wasn't always evil. Once he was an honorable man and, when he was, he was in love with a dark elf. Her name was Niben and she was very beautiful.." She pushed her hair back from her face and let her fingers trail through to the tips. He slowed his strides so that she could close the distance between them and then they walked side by side. He looked at her with his eyebrows raised with interest, motioning for her to continue. "Her parents were the sort who didn't approve of her being with anyone outside of her race, it was a disgrace to the family. So," she continued, "As you can imagine, when they found out about her being with this man, they tried to kill her but she escaped and traveled to Mordor to be with him."
"The two settled down in the protection of Mordor and had kids," she went on, wearily, "During the birth of their fifth child, she fell ill and he did not have the medicine he needed to help her and she died." They rounded another bend of hallway and came to the room where her parents had walked off without her. She paused for a second, allowing him to walk a small distance in front of her. " The children grew and mated and branched off from eachother," she continued, " They formed their own tribes and, soon, those tribes turned into villages, towns, and then cities. Four of those cites banned together and fled Mordor only ten years ago. The fifth one, ours, remained there for the time being."
He stopped where they had arrived in front of a tall, decorative door. "They should be straight through these doors," he said staring down at her, "I'll see you in, if you'd like." Alu gave her head a light shake to indicate that she could do without him escorting her. She fiddled with her clothes abit before pushing the door open and stepping into the room. Haldir still stood there in the hallway just outside of the doorway. Her mother smiled at her as she entered and her father simply raised an eyebrow at her. She quietly took and empty seat next to her mother and stared at her hands as they sat idly in her lap.
